Biobank infrastructure: what UAE hospitals need to know

A modern biobank is more than a room of freezers. It's an integrated infrastructure: LN₂ supply, distribution, monitoring, sample tracking, safety systems and validated processes.

The backbone is bulk LN₂ storage — microbulk tanks sized to consumption. From there, vacuum-jacketed (VJ) piping distributes LN₂ to freezers and vitrification vessels with minimal thermal loss.

Monitoring should cover temperature, LN₂ levels, oxygen depletion and door status, with alarms routed to on-call teams and integrated with facility BMS where possible.

Commissioning is where projects live or die. Insist on leak testing, thermal validation, alarm testing, staff training and full as-built documentation.
